FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: NO Level II Screening: NO Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, the Project Coordinator is responsible for coordination of maintenance and construction projects for Traffic, Streets, Stormwater and Facilities Maintenance.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation: Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency.
Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
Non-Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency.
The employee’s Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.
Duties/Responsibilities Obtains and manages construction permits for projects.
Plans, coordinates, and monitors construction projects to include road construction, sidewalk construction, drainage structures, and facilities as well as review change orders and pay requests made by contractors.
Interprets construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
Coordinates and monitors construction for in-house projects Oversees work zone safety for contracted projects.
Assists with building budgets for repair and maintenance projects.
May require to drive a motor vehicle to accomplish assigned tasks.
This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee’s physical presence at the workplace.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Skill in time management and organization Ability to read and interpret MUTCD traffic maps, blueprints, construction plans and as-builts.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to operate necessary equipment, including power equipment and hand tools.
Ability to perform under frequent deadlines and/or in response to emergencies.
Ability to exercise judgment and make decisions in accordance with established laws, regulations, ordinances, departmental policies, and procedures.
Ability to effectively use a smart phone, personal computer, and applicable software Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
Ability to communicate in both verbal and written form to all levels of City personnel, public consultants, and contractors in both positive and negative situations.
Minimum Requirements High School diploma or GED Five years’ experience in a related field, with a minimum of three years’ experience and / or training in construction and project management.
Basic knowledge of mechanical and structural systems.
Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Must possess a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification approved by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), at time of hire or be able to obtain within twelve (12) months from date of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate degree.

Reaching – extending hands or arms in any direction.
Repetitive Motion – substantial movements of wrists, hands, fingers.
Speaking – expressing ideas with spoken word, convey detailed, important instructions accurately, concisely.
Standing – for sustained periods of time.
Stooping – bending body downward, forward at waist, with full motion of lower extremities and back.
Talking 1- expressing ideas by spoken word Talking 2 – shouting to be heard above ambient noise.
Visual Acuity 1 - prepare, analyze data, transcribing, computer terminal, extensive reading.
Hearing 2 – receive detailed information, make discrimination in sound.
Kneeling – bending legs at knee to come to rest at knees.
Lifting – raising objects from lower to higher position, moving objects side to side, using upper extremities, back.
Visual Acuity 2 - color, depth perception, field of vision.
Visual Acuity 3 - determine accuracy, neatness, observe facilities/structures.
Visual Acuity 4 - operate motor vehicles/heavy equipment.
Mental Acuity – ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning.
Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul or tug.
Visual Acuity 5 -close acuity for inspection of small defects, machines, use measurement devices, or fabricate parts.
Walking - on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site.
Work performed is primarily: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Contact with internal and external customers, vendors, outside agencies and the general public.
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration.
