Job Summary:
The Low-Voltage Field Lead Technician performs various kinds of installation, maintenance, and repair work on diverse low-voltage systems, including but not limited to audio/visual, access control, cellular DAS, emergency responder BDA, networking, nurse call, surveillance, structured cabling, and telephone systems for both Softrim provided systems and non-Softrim provided (existing client) systems alike.
As well, the Low-Voltage Field Superintendent will lead a team of professionals, overseeing the day-to-day field operations of various assigned projects, both local and remote, and bringing projects to successful completion.
Responsibilities: Maintain and utilize a superior knowledge of all structured cabling and low-voltage systems, with proven proficiency in all aspects for both Softrim provided systems and non-Softrim provided (existing client) systems alike Maintain an open line of communication regarding project milestones, events, outstanding issues, and customer follow-up Maintain technical documentation and notify management of any information that requires an update, including assisting with identifying gaps in documentation and collecting missing information Continuous learning and support of all technologies used in Softrim’s typical client locations Field oversight and support of all assigned low-voltage projects, both local and remote Manage and lead a team of structured cabling professionals, both on-staff and outsourced help Cooperate with Project Team(s) to prepare for field deployment, including but not limited to attending project handoff meetings and materials delivery/staging Develop and maintain project relationships by providing quality service and ensuring satisfaction Coordinate with other departments and maintain positive working relationships across the organization to ensure timely project delivery, including keeping projects on schedule and budget Proactively resolve cross-functional and cross departmental issues at the project level and escalate issues when necessary; provide regular and as requested status updates Lead the after-action review on all structured cabling and low-voltage projects to ensure their whole and correct completion, including but not limited to final system checks and retention of project documentation Installation and removal of various types of low-voltage cabling, including fiber optic cabling Pull, terminate, neatly label, and test all standard industry cable types in a variety of topologies Mount, dismount, connect, and disconnect various types of low-voltage systems equipment, including but not limited to audio/visual, access control, cellular DAS, emergency responder BDA, computers (including peripherals), networking (switches and wifi), nurse call and roam alert, surveillance, structured cabling, and telephone systems (as specified per project) Transport, maintain, store, and safely utilize tools and implements including ladders, lifts, hoists, dollies, sawzalls, and other cutting instruments, punch-down tools, fasteners, drills, etc.
Read blueprints and install according to plans Understand topology concepts such as IDF, MDF, BDR, riser, conduit, line-of-sight, etc.
Practice workplace alertness and adhere to OSHA safety guidelines to minimize the risk of workplace injury Safely operate company-owned automobiles Protect the interests and reputation of the company through superior personal conduct on and off the job Accurately record all time and notes for work performed in accordance with company standards Attend all required meetings and functions as directed by management Maximize billable status for work performed Adhere to budgetary and scheduling guidelines Train and share knowledge with peers Team player able to interact at all levels within the company while gathering requirements Other tasks generally within scope of field superintendent as assigned by supervisor Requirements: 5+ years of new construction project experience required; commercial/multifamily experience preferred 10+ years of related experience specific to low-voltage technologies (audio/visual, access control, cellular DAS, emergency responder BDA, computers (including peripherals), networking (switches and wifi), nurse call and roam alert, surveillance, structured cabling, and telephones) is a plus Substantial experience interpreting plan drawings and details Able to safely climb a ladder and work on a lift, lift 50lbs, crouch, kneel, stop, crawl, and safely operate powered and non-powered tools alike Training certificate in a skilled trade preferred or equivalent work experience 30-hour OSHA construction certification preferred Travel to various projects sites state and nation wide as needed High School diploma or equivalent required Valid FL Driver’s license with clean driving record English language (fluent), Spanish language a plus but not required Essential Skills: Functioning independently with little or no direct supervision Able to adapt and respond to ever changing work situations and environments Working in a structured and disciplined manner to complete assignments on schedule Able to multi-task, use independent judgement, and follow complex instructions Exceptional organizational and time management skills Exceptional attention to detail Strong verbal and written communication skills Commitment to providing responsive customer services, even after hours Low-Voltage structured cabling (pulling, terminating, testing) Fiber optic cabling (pulling, terminating, testing) Construction Site Safety (OSHA) MDF/IDF closet build out Interpreting plan drawings Good handwriting and reading Skills Dress Code: Construction site ready.
Softrim-logoed safety shirt and full-length work slacks/jeans with belt.
Jacket and/or weather-protective clothing may be required.
Hard hat, safety goggles and ear protection often required.
Steel-toed work boots.
No shorts and no pants with holes or rips.
For safety, facial hair may be required to be kept short and trimmed neatly, and facial piercing and other jewelry may need to be removed.
Must maintain professional personal hygiene and appear in clean clothing at the beginning of each shift.
